DE SOM SEJREDE... REVIEW BY BURNING BLACK ZINE NOVEMBER 2005
Nattefrost is a dark ambient/classical music project inspired in the ancient Scandinavia… This is actually its fifth release, and I must say I was greatly impressed with the work of Mr. Bjorn Jeppesen, its mastermind and only member…
The music of Nattefrost has really grandiloquent atmospheres with simple passages of extraordinary power. The contrasting parts between the simple subtle melodies and the strong, deep symphonic background, adds a disturbing tension to the whole disc. This work seems to have strong epic influences, specially form the third track “I Krig” (In War) where a pretty short, but magnificent song becomes an introduction for “Slaget Som Varede Evigt” (“The Battle That Lasted Eternally”) …a masterpiece!!! With monotone bass-like lines at background and mysterious keyboards melodies which create a huge state of expectation and a triumphant feeling… this piece produce a strange state of excitement… like the calm before the storm (or the battle). The song after that “Sværdet” (The Sword) reminds me immediately the sound of Burzum in its “Hlidskjalf” with simple, subtle, dark and mysterious keyboards… Then we got diverse atmospheres; form funeral, desolating melodies in “Stormende Mod Fjenden” (Storming Towards The Enemy) to ethereal space-like melodies (which remind me the sound Tangerine Dream) in “Tårnets Krigere” (The Warriors Of The Tower).
This album has a great diversity of sounds, structures and textures, but maintains their own sound along the disc… its music will transport you through deep ancient forests and will make you feel the heat of the battle.
