NATTEFROST INTERVIEW BY S. NASIR OCTOBER 2003
Where did you get the idea for the name and what does it mean?
I wanted to have a name which was very Scandinavia like and Nattefrost means "Night Frost". It was not called Nattefrost in the very beginning though, but I used the name "I Nattens Mørke", but I changed it before I made the first demo tape.
What year did it all begin?
I started this solo project in 1995 and I made some demo tapes. In 1997 I released the mini album "Nordboernes solhvervsfest" which is no longer available. In 1998 I made a few copies of a 1 track CD which only a few people have and until now there hasn't been any new Nattefrost releases.
How would you best describe your music?
Hm, that's not easy, but I would call it Pagan atmospheric ambient. Sometimes I think I'll even name it classical music. A lot of people call it dark ambient, that's also a thing you could call it even I don't find all the tracks dark at all.
Is your music a reflection of your personality?
Sure it is. The track titles are in danish and inspired by my country which I am very proud of. The people and the country are pagan even a lot of people say that they believe in christianity but that's the same as saying that you're not from Denmark. I wouldn't call Nattefrost propaganda though.
I understand that you have a 3" Promo CD and a full lenght album in the pipeline, could you tell us a bit more about that?
The Promo will include 4 of the tracks and there'll be made 50 copies of it so it's very limited. The full length album will include 10 tracks and will also have a nice coloured sleeve.
Why has it taken so long to release this album and is this Nattefrost's debut album?
Yeah it's 6 years since "Nordboernes solhvervsfest" was released, hm... Well I am working with other music projects as well so that could be the reason. some of the tracks on the new album are from the beginning of 2000 so It's not that I haven't been working.
What kind of music have you been listening to lately?
Oh different stuff and most of it has nothing to do with the music I make as I am not really inspired by other music. If I should mention a few names that I've been listening to recently I would say Darkthrone, Bathory, Hedningarna, Ulver, Level 42 and Depeche Mode just to name a few.
Could you name some bands that inspired you to create your music?
No because I am not that inspired by music, but I can name a few good bands or artists that play music in the same genre as Nattefrost or should we say a sort of. Tangerine Dream (From 1968-1984), Burzum, Plastikman, Aphex Twin and maybe Vangelis. But that's only musically, not if you mean inspiration i guess.
What track is your favourite track from the forthcoming album and why?
That's a hard question, but I really enjoy "Mod Lindisfarne" very much but that's a tough question.
What are your future plans for Nattefrost, which direction will you be taking your solo project?
The belgian record label "Nulll Records" will release a compilation CD called "From the Nulll void" in a few months and Nattefrost will appear with a track on that compilation. Also the promos will be posted to a few people and then the album will see the light of day hopefully in February next year, it could be delayed though.
